Wo fängt man da an? Am besten am Anfang, wir springen also ins Jahr 1907. Die Reederei Cunard hatte zwei Linienschiffe gebaut, Turbinendampfer, das allerneueste und schnellste was auf dem Wasser fuhr, es waren die Mauretania und die Lusitania.
Wobei letztere später auch in die Geschichte einging.
Nun der Konkurenz also White Star Line gefiel das gar nicht. Sie wollten die Herrschaft über die See. Wettbewerb und so.
Also trafen sich eines Abends Joseph Bruce Ismay Geschäftsführer der White Star Line und Lord William James Pirrie Direktor der Schiffswerft von Harland and Wolff um drei riesige neue Schiffstypen zu entwickeln.
Sie sollten Olympic Titanic und Gigantic heissen, letztere wurde später Brittanic getauft.
